The next book in the Queens of Villainy, the one immediately follows on from events from the first book. In this one, the flirty Fae Queen kidnaps the Emperor’s General (known for his sense of duty and morality) for her own purposes. As the prologue to the story shows, they have known each other for many years, with the Fae Queen (who is Queen of a mortal land, but a Princess in the fae world) teasing and causing no end of personal problems for the General. But the kidnapping would cause events in both the human and fae worlds that would change their fates and prepare them for a now unavoidable conflict with the Emperor, who wants to cleanse the land of non-human creatures.
As the story unfolds, the Fae Queen reveals the reason for the kidnapping, for she wants him to be her partner in a series of competitive games in the fae world, being organised by a Fae Prince which once tried to force her to be his bride. Despite not having any magic, the General turns out to be an able partner, for his powers of observation and strategy complement the Fae Queen’s own magic. And during the games, romance blossoms between them. But just when they are close to winning, the Fae Prince uses his magic on the General to try to force him to kill her, forcing her and the General to return to the human world to escape his influence.
Back in the human world, events catch up to them, for the Emperor is preparing to unleash his forces to ‘cleanse’ the lands. The General makes an attempt to change his mind, putting himself in danger. In the end, the Queens of Villainy and the General have to join forces to prepare for the coming war with the Emperor.
Now, it may be up to the Ice Queen (the third Queen of the trio) whose relationship with the Emperor’s sister may be the only thing that can stop the Emperor. This is to be covered in the third book of the series.
